When painting and sculpture enter into conversation

On November 26, 2026, the visual worlds of Polish sculptor Remigiusz Dulko from Oświęcim/Auschwitz and Aichach painter and writer Fabian Oppolzer meet at the Museum Altomünster. The exhibition Painting & Sculpture in Dialogue connects two independent artistic positions into a concentrated art experience about form, material, memory, and cultural encounter.

Color, bronze, and spatial presence

The title of the exhibition also describes the curatorial principle: Painting and sculpture do not stand isolated next to each other but enter into an open exchange. Oppolzer's paintings respond with color sound, surface, and painterly movement to Dulko's bronze sculptures, whose volume, surface, and physicality shape the exhibition space. In the examination of the works, a play between visual openness and plastic condensation emerges.

Remigiusz Dulko: Sculpture as condensed form

Remigiusz Dulko, born in 1955 in Lidzbark Warmiński, studied sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow. Since the beginning of his artistic career, he has primarily worked with bronze. His works range from erotic and sacred motifs to monumental and applied forms. The exhibition makes his material-conscious, physically present language of form directly experienceable.

Fabian Oppolzer: Painting with literary resonance space

Fabian Oppolzer combines artistic practice with literary and humanities thinking. He studied history, theology, and comparative literature in Vienna and has been working as a visual artist since 2017. His painting unfolds its own resonance space of color, composition, and narrative openness. In dialogue with Dulko's sculptures, it becomes visible how different media open new perspectives on perception and meaning.

Art as a bridge between cultures

The exhibition also has a cultural-political dimension. Dulko comes from the Polish Oświęcim/Auschwitz, Oppolzer from the Aichach region. Through the district partnership between Dachau and Oświęcim/Auschwitz, the historical and cultural dialogue in art continues. The Museum Altomünster thus becomes a place of encounter that combines aesthetic experience with cultural education and European remembrance culture.

The Museum Altomünster as an exhibition space

The special exhibition is embedded in the unique atmosphere of the Museum Altomünster, which is concurrently dedicated to the history of the Altomünster monastery and the Bridgettine order. Calmness, historical depth, and contemporary art enter into a relationship full of tension. Visitors experience an exhibition where spatial effect, materiality, light, and guiding the gaze determine the perception of the works.

Conclusion: A dialogue that transcends the image

Painting & Sculpture in Dialogue promises an intense encounter with works between color, bronze, surface, and space. Art enthusiasts discover two different artistic signatures and experience how art transcends linguistic, cultural, and historical boundaries. A visit to the Museum Altomünster enriches the aesthetic experience and opens new perspectives on contemporary art.
