When painting and sculpture enter into conversation
The Museum Altomünster presents Painting & Sculpture in Dialogue, a German-Polish exhibition featuring works by sculptor Remigiusz Dulko from Oświęcim/Auschwitz and Aichach-based painter, musician, and writer Fabian Oppolzer. From September 27, 2026, to January 17, 2027, a compelling resonance space for contemporary art, cultural encounter, and aesthetic experience will be created.
A dialogue between surface, body, and space
The exhibition title also describes the curatorial principle. Painting and sculpture do not stand isolated beside each other, but enter into relationship: color fields, lines, and image rhythms engage with the spatial presence of bronze, volume, and surface. In the examination of the works, the gaze sharpens for proportion, materiality, light, and movement.
The atmosphere of the exhibition thrives on concentrated contrasts. While painting opens imaginative spaces and works with color nuances, the sculptures set physical accents. The museum becomes a place for a sensual conversation in which different artistic languages open up new perspectives on memory, humanity, and cultural connection.
Remigiusz Dulko: Bronze between body and spirituality
Remigiusz Dulko studied sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow and graduated with honors in 1979. For more than four decades, he has been working with bronze. His figurative sculptures revolve around human relationships, sensuality, spirituality, and the tension between the sacred and the mundane.
Bronze appears in Dulko's work as a condensed presence. Light glides over the surface, sculptural forms structure the space, and each figure develops a tension between weight and movement. The traditional technique of lost-wax casting combines artisanal precision with a quiet, contemplative visual language. His works have been exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Poland and Germany.
Fabian Oppolzer: Painting between reality and imagination
Fabian Oppolzer works as a painter, musician, and writer. His painting and graphics combine realistic portraits with imaginative, dream-like visual worlds. Familiar motifs experience a poetic shift and open an atmospheric space between observation, memory, and inner imagination.
In direct confrontation with Dulko's works, Oppolzer's painting gains an additional spatial dimension. Color fields, figures, and narrative image motifs respond to the physicality of bronze. The sculpture, in turn, becomes perceptible through the painterly environment as part of an expanded composition. Differences are not smoothed over but utilized as a productive basis for an artistic dialogue. For his artistic work, Oppolzer received, among others, the Audience Award of the Aichacher Art Prize 2022.
Art as a connection across borders
The exhibition is marked by the district partnership between Dachau and Oświęcim/Auschwitz. Two artists from different cultural contexts meet in a joint presentation that translates historical connectedness into a contemporary aesthetic experience.
Cultural education arises here through immediate seeing, comparing, and conversing in front of the originals. The exhibition makes visible how art overcomes linguistic and geographical boundaries and enables an open dialogue about form, material, memory, and humanity.
Art experience at the Museum Altomünster
Visitors will experience a concentrated encounter between bronze sculpture and painting. The exhibition invites visitors to perceive the change of light on metallic surfaces, to follow the spatial effect of three-dimensional forms, and to explore the emotional resonances of painterly image worlds.
The Museum Altomünster is open from Thursday to Saturday from 1 PM to 4 PM and on Sundays from 1 PM to 5 PM. On holidays, opening hours are from 1 PM to 4 PM. On Sunday, November 8, 2026, Fabian Oppolzer will guide through the exhibition at 3 PM; participation is included in the regular admission fee. The admission fee is 2.50 euros per person, and children up to 14 years visit the exhibition free of charge.
Conclusion: Two artistic languages, one shared resonance space
Painting & Sculpture in Dialogue connects contemporary art with cultural encounters and opens a multifaceted art experience between bronze, color, figure, and imagination. Anyone wishing to experience art not only visually but in its sensory, art-historical, and societal depth should visit this exhibition live at the Museum Altomünster.
