When Painting and Sculpture Engage in Conversation

The Altomünster Museum presents Painting & Sculpture in Dialogue, a German-Polish exhibition featuring the works of sculptor Remigiusz Dulko from Oświęcim/Auschwitz and painter, writer, and musician Fabian Oppolzer from Aichach. From September 27, 2026 to January 17, 2027, a concentrated art experience unfolds through color, form, material, memory, and cultural connection.

A Dialogue Between Surface, Body, and Space

The exhibition title also describes the curatorial principle: Painting and sculpture do not stand isolated next to each other, but enter into a visual and intellectual exchange. Oppolzer's paintings open spaces for color, line, rhythm, and narrative depth. Dulko's bronze sculptures provide volume, surface, weight, and spatial presence in response.

In the examination of the works, it becomes evident how differently artistic media organize perception. Color fields act as inner spaces, while the sculptures guide the gaze around their bodies and their interstitial spaces. Light glides over bronze, shapes structure the exhibition architecture, and create an exhibition atmosphere between calmness and intense tension.

Remigiusz Dulko: Bronze as Condensed Presence

Remigiusz Dulko was born in 1955 in Lidzbark Warmiński and studied sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, where he graduated with honors in 1979. For more than four decades, he has primarily worked with bronze and accompanies his sculptures from the initial idea to the final finishing.

His figurative works revolve around human relationships, spirituality, sensuality, memory, and the relationship between the sacred and the mundane. The traditional lost-wax casting process blends artisanal precision with a strong plastic effect. In Altomünster, the bronze sculptures unfold their power through gesture, mass, surface, and interstice.

Fabian Oppolzer: Painting Between Image and Narrative

Fabian Oppolzer, born in Stuttgart in 1984, studied history, theology, and comparative literature in Vienna. Since 2017, he has been working as a visual artist, connecting his painting with literary and cultural scientific thinking. His works include realistic portraits as well as imaginative, dream-like visual worlds.

In interaction with Dulko, Oppolzer's painting gains additional spatial tension. Color harmony and image rhythm respond to the physicality of the bronze. The juxtaposition makes differences visible and uses them as a productive basis for a deepened aesthetic experience.

Art Connects Stories and Cultures

The exhibition possesses a special cultural-historical dimension. Remigiusz Dulko hails from Oświęcim, the Polish partner district of Dachau, while Fabian Oppolzer is closely connected to the region. The partnership between the Dachau district and Oświęcim/Auschwitz finds a sensual continuation in art.

The Altomünster Museum creates a multifaceted resonance space: contemporary painting and sculpture meet the history of the former Birgittine monastery and the permanent exhibition on the Birgittine Order. The curation connects contemporary art, memory culture, and cultural education, inviting discussions that transcend the boundaries of language, origin, and medium.

Guided Tours and Special Insights

On Sunday, November 8, 2026, Fabian Oppolzer will guide a tour through the exhibition at 3 PM. Participation is included in the regular admission price. In parallel to the exhibition, a film about the relay run from Dachau to Auschwitz will be shown at certain times.

Conclusion: An Art Experience with Sustainable Impact

Painting & Sculpture in Dialogue promises an immediate encounter with two independent artistic positions. Bronze sculptures by Remigiusz Dulko meet the painterly and literary sensitivity of Fabian Oppolzer. Anyone wishing to experience color, form, material, and history in the original should definitely visit this exhibition at the Altomünster Museum. The aesthetic experience opens new perspectives on the connecting power of art.
