Painting and Sculpture in Dialogue: An Art Experience Between Color, Bronze, and Memory

In the Museum Altomünster, the works of the Polish sculptor Remigiusz Dulko from Oświęcim or Auschwitz meet those of the painter, musician, and writer Fabian Oppolzer from Aichach. The exhibition connects two independent artistic positions into an intense dialogue about form, material, history, and cultural encounters.

When Surface and Body Speak to Each Other

The title of the exhibition also describes the curatorial principle: Painting and sculpture do not stand isolated next to each other but respond to one another. Color fields, lines, and painterly rhythms encounter body, surface, and spatial presence. In the examination of the works, an aesthetic experience emerges that sharpens the view for proportion, materiality, and movement.

Remigiusz Dulko: Bronze as Condensed Presence

Remigiusz Dulko was born in 1955 in Lidzbark Warmiński and studied sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, which he graduated from with honors in 1979. For more than four decades, he has primarily worked with bronze. His figurative sculptures blend craftsmanship precision with a distinctive plastic language.

Dulko's bronzes revolve around humanity, relationships, spirituality, and memory. Mass, surface, gesture, and emptiness enter into a tension-filled relationship. Light and shadow alter the perception of the sculptures and give them a silent, yet intense effect.

Fabian Oppolzer: Painting with Literary Sensitivity

Fabian Oppolzer works in Aichach as a painter, musician, and writer. His artistic practice combines visual thinking with literary attention to memory, narrative, and cultural contexts. The selected paintings enter into a visual exchange with Dulko's sculptures.

Color harmony and image rhythm respond to the physicality of bronze. Different materials, forms, and expressions do not represent a dichotomy but rather an open resonance space. The curation makes art as an encounter tangible and opens new perspectives on contemporary painting and sculpture.

Art as a German-Polish Dialogue

The exhibition is connected to the partnership between the Dachau district and Oświęcim or Auschwitz. Two artists from different cultural contexts meet in a museum shaped by history, spirituality, and cultural education.

Painting and sculpture create a dialogue where words alone are insufficient. The exhibition directs attention to questions of memory, identity, history, and European connectedness.

A Historical Place for Contemporary Art

The Museum Altomünster houses, in addition to changing special exhibitions, a permanent exhibition on the Altomünster Monastery and the Bridgettine Order. Calmness, contemplation, and reflection characterize the spaces. In this historical context, the juxtaposition of contemporary art and cultural memory gains special depth.

Visitor Information

The exhibition is open on Sunday, January 10, 2027, from 1 PM to 5 PM. Admission costs 2.50 Euros per person. Children up to 14 years can visit the museum free of charge. Groups of ten or more pay 2.00 Euros per person. The exhibition will be on view from September 27, 2026, to January 17, 2027.

Conclusion: An Aesthetic Experience Between History and Present

Visitors can expect a concentrated art experience between bronze, color, form, and space. The exhibition demonstrates how two different media communicate with each other and how cultural encounters gain new significance through the examination of the works. Anyone who wants to experience contemporary art, art historical contexts, and the German-Polish dialogue directly should definitely visit this exhibition at the Museum Altomünster.
