When Painting and Sculpture Enter into Conversation

At the Museum Altomünster, the bronze sculptures of the Polish sculptor Remigiusz Dulko meet the paintings of the Aichach artist and writer Fabian Oppolzer. The exhibition Painting & Sculpture in Dialogue connects two distinct artistic styles to create an art experience focused on form, material, memory, and cultural exchange.

A Dialogue Between Surface and Space

The title of the exhibition also describes the curatorial principle: painting and sculpture do not appear in isolation, but respond to each other. Color areas, light, and painterly rhythm interact with volume, surface, and spatial presence. In the contemplation of the works, a play emerges that slows down the gaze and intensifies the aesthetic experience.

Remigiusz Dulko: Bronze as the Language of Body and Memory

Remigiusz Dulko was born in 1955 in Lidzbark Warmiński and studied sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, graduating with honors in 1979. For more than four decades, he has been working with bronze. His figurative sculptures revolve around human relationships, everyday life, sensuality, and spirituality, often navigating between the sacred and the profane.

The bronze sculptures combine craftsmanship precision with symbolic openness. Light glides over edges, hollows, and plastic elevations, while the materiality of the surface lends the figures a special physical presence. Dulko is interested in the possibilities and limits of the material; each sculpture develops its final form in the tension between idea, processing, and bronze.

Fabian Oppolzer: Painting Between Reality and Imaginative World

Fabian Oppolzer brings a biography of literature, history, theology, and fine arts into the exhibition. Since 2017, he has been working as a visual artist. His paintings, graphics, and drawings combine realistic portraits with imaginative pictorial worlds in which the familiar and the fantastical intertwine.

Oil painting on canvas and wood, watercolor, ink, wax crayon, and collage offer different approaches to questions of identity, memory, and perception. Motifs such as self-portraits, literary figures, animals, and landscapes give his works a narrative depth. In conjunction with Dulko's sculptures, the painterly world expands to include physicality, material, and space.

Art as Cultural Encounter

The exhibition also has a cultural-historical dimension. Remigiusz Dulko comes from Oświęcim, the Polish partner district of the District of Dachau, while Fabian Oppolzer hails from the Aichach region. Their joint presentation continues the partnership exchange between Dachau and Auschwitz on an artistic level.

The Museum Altomünster creates a special resonance space for this. The calm exhibition atmosphere and the historic character of the house support concentrated contemplation of the works. Here, art appears as a form of cultural education: it opens new perspectives, transcends linguistic and cultural boundaries, and brings people into dialogue.

Conclusion: An Artistic Experience Between Color, Form, and Space

Visitors can expect an exhibition where painting and sculpture not only stand side by side but visibly transform each other. The aesthetic experience ranges from the warm, bodily presence of bronze to the narrative and imaginative pictorial spaces of Fabian Oppolzer. Those who wish to experience art as encounter, memory, and vibrant dialogue should definitely visit this exhibition at the Museum Altomünster.
