When Painting and Sculpture Enter into Conversation
At the Museum Altomünster, the bronze sculptures of the Polish sculptor Remigiusz Dulko from Oświęcim/Auschwitz meet the paintings of the artist, writer, and musician Fabian Oppolzer from Aichach. The exhibition Painting & Sculpture in Dialogue connects two distinct artistic positions to create an impactful art experience about color, form, material, memory, and cultural encounter.
A Dialogue between Surface, Body, and Space
The title of the exhibition describes the curatorial principle: painting and sculpture do not stand isolated next to each other but enter into a visual and conceptual exchange. Oppolzer's images open imaginative spaces between observation, memory, and inner visualization. Dulko counters this with the physical presence of bronze, volume, surface, and spatial tension.
In the contemplation of the works, an aesthetic experience arises that sharpens the perception of proportion, materiality, and movement. Light changes the effect of the bronze surfaces while color planes and image rhythms create emotional resonances. The atmosphere of the exhibition thrives on the interplay between painterly openness and plastic density.
Remigiusz Dulko: Bronze as a Medium of Expression
Remigiusz Dulko studied sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow and graduated in 1979 with honors. Since the beginning of his artistic career, he has predominantly worked with bronze. His figurative sculptures revolve around human relationships, sensuality, spirituality, and the tension between the sacred and the mundane.
The bronze sculptures reveal their impact through mass, line, surface, and the space in between. Dulko accompanies the creation process of his works from the initial idea through the design to the final refinement. His sculptural language combines craftsmanship precision with an expressive presence that raises questions about body, memory, intimacy, and transcendence.
Fabian Oppolzer: Painting between Reality and Imagination
Fabian Oppolzer, born in 1984 in Stuttgart, studied history, theology, and comparative literature in Vienna. Since 2012, he has been working as a freelance writer, and since 2017 also as a visual artist. His paintings and graphics combine realistic portraits with imaginative, dream-like imagery, where the familiar experiences a poetic shift.
Oppolzer's images create an atmospheric space between external observation and internal experience. Color tones, figures, and narrative motifs invite a re-examination of the boundaries between reality, fantasy, and memory. For his artistic work, he received, among other honors, the audience award at the Aichach Art Prize 2022.
Art Connects Cultures and Stories
The German-Polish exhibition is linked to the district partnership between Dachau and Oświęcim/Auschwitz. Remigiusz Dulko comes from the Polish partner district, while Fabian Oppolzer is closely connected to the region. The Museum Altomünster makes visible how art enables encounters across linguistic and cultural boundaries.
The exhibition is also intended as a contribution to cultural education. Visitors can directly experience how different media communicate with each other and how contemporary art translates historical relationships into an aesthetic experience. The proximity to the history of the former Bridgettine monastery enhances the resonance between art, memory, and cultural heritage.
Art Experience at Museum Altomünster
