When Painting and Sculpture Enter into Conversation
The Museum Altomünster invites to the exhibition Painting & Sculpture in Dialogue featuring works by Polish sculptor Remigiusz Dulko from Oświęcim/Auschwitz and Aichach painter and writer Fabian Oppolzer. From September 27, 2026, to January 17, 2027, two artistic positions meet, transferring different cultural experiences into a shared exhibition atmosphere.
Bronze, Line and Painterly Resonance
At the center are unique bronze sculptures by Remigiusz Dulko. Their plastic presence develops an immediate effect in the museum space: body, volume, and material challenge the observation of the work from various angles. The sculpture is visible not only as an object but as a physically experienceable placement in space.
Fabian Oppolzer responds with a selection of his own works. His delicate drawings and paintings create a painterly counterpoint to the concentrated weight of the bronze. Lines, surfaces, and open image spaces lead the gaze into another perception level. Thus, there is no juxtaposition but a tension-filled dialogue between painting and sculpture.
Art as a Connection Across Borders
The exhibition also has a cultural-historical dimension. Dulko comes from Polish Oświęcim/Auschwitz, while Oppolzer works as a painter and writer in Aichach, Bavaria. Both artists share a German-Polish perspective, which receives additional societal context through the district partnership between Dachau and Oświęcim/Auschwitz.
The curation makes visible how art overcomes linguistic and cultural barriers. Forms, materials, and colors take on the role of a common language. Especially in the transition from three-dimensional sculpture to two-dimensional painting, an aesthetic experience opens up that stimulates reflection on memory, encounter, and cultural understanding.
An Art Experience at the Museum Altomünster
The exhibition fits into the Museum Altomünster, whose permanent exhibition is dedicated to the monastery of Altomünster and the Bridgettine Order. The connection of a historically marked museum location with contemporary art creates a special spatial effect. Calm museum architecture, plastic bronze, and finely placed painterly forms create moments of concentration and quiet contemplation.
The opening takes place on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at 3 PM. During the exhibition, the presentation is open from Thursday to Saturday from 1 to 4 PM and Sundays from 1 to 5 PM. Admission costs 2.50 euros per person; children up to 14 years can visit the exhibition free of charge.
Conclusion: Two Languages of Art, One Common Dialogue
Painting & Sculpture in Dialogue promises a concentrated art experience between bronze sculpture, drawing, painting, and cultural memory. Art enthusiasts can experience how different media open up new perspectives and how communication can arise from diversity. A visit to the Museum Altomünster enriches cultural education and invites a sustainable aesthetic experience.
