When painting and sculpture enter into conversation

At the Museum Altomünster, starting from September 27, 2026, two independent artistic positions meet: the bronze sculptures of Polish sculptor Remigiusz Dulko from Oświęcim and the paintings of Aichach-based artist and writer Fabian Oppolzer. The exhibition Painting & Sculpture in Dialogue opens new perspectives on encounter, memory, and cultural connection.

Bronze between body, spirituality, and memory

Remigiusz Dulko studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow and graduated with honors in 1979. For more than four decades, he has worked with bronze and accompanies the creation process of his works from the initial idea to the final editing. His figurative sculptures revolve around human relationships, sensuality, spirituality, and the tension between the sacred and the everyday.

In the contemplation of the work, bronze unfolds a special presence. The material connects weight and movement, resistance and sensual surface. Expressive forms give the sculptures a physical intensity, while motifs of the human body raise questions of proximity, memory, and transcendence.

Painting as an imaginative experience

Fabian Oppolzer, born in Stuttgart in 1984, studied history, theology, and comparative literature in Vienna. Since 2012, he has worked as a freelance writer and, since 2017, as a visual artist. His painting and graphics combine realistic portraits with imaginative, dreamlike imagery, in which the familiar experiences a poetic shift.

Color fields, figures, and narrative pictorial motifs open an atmospheric space between observation and inner imagination. Oppolzer's works invite a re-examination of the boundaries between reality, memory, and fantasy. For his artistic work, he received, among other awards, the audience prize of the Aichach Art Prize 2022.

Dialogue as a curatorial principle

The exhibition presents painting and sculpture not as opposites, but as corresponding forms of expression. The spatial presence of bronze meets the color and image dramaturgy of painting. Forms relate to surfaces, bodies to imagination, materiality to narrative openness.

The dialogue also possesses a cultural-historical dimension. Dulko comes from Oświęcim, the Polish partner district of Dachau, while Oppolzer works in Aichach. The exhibition continues the connection between both regions in an aesthetic experience. Cultural education emerges here through direct seeing, comparing, and conversation in front of the originals.

Art experience at the Museum Altomünster

The exhibition atmosphere lives from the interplay between flat painting and three-dimensional sculpture. Visitors experience how light interacts with bronze, how bodies affect space, and how painterly worlds create emotional resonances. A concentrated examination of the works opens up art-historical, sensual, biographical, and social access.

The special exhibition is on view from September 27, 2026, to January 17, 2027. The museum is open from Thursday to Saturday from 1 PM to 4 PM and on Sundays from 1 PM to 5 PM; on public holidays, opening hours are from 1 PM to 4 PM. Entrance costs 2.50 euros per person, children up to 14 years visit the exhibition free of charge.

Conclusion: Two artistic languages, one common resonance space

Painting & Sculpture in Dialogue promises a multifaceted art experience between bronze, color, figure, and imagination. The exhibition connects contemporary art with cultural encounter and invites visitors to experience the effects of material, space, and memory directly. Art enthusiasts should visit this exhibition live at the Museum Altomünster.
