When Painting and Sculpture Enter into Conversation

At the Museum Altomünster, from September 27, 2026, to January 17, 2027, two independent artistic positions meet: the bronze sculptures of Polish sculptor Remigiusz Dulko from Oświęcim, also known as Auschwitz, and the paintings of Aichach artist, musician, and writer Fabian Oppolzer. The exhibition makes visible how art overcomes cultural boundaries and opens a dialogue about form, memory, and perception.

An Artistic Experience Between Surface, Body, and Space

The title of the exhibition also describes the curatorial principle. Painting and sculpture do not stand isolated next to each other, but respond to one another. Color fields, lines, and compositions meet the volume, weight, and spatial presence of bronze. In the examination of the works, a dynamic interplay emerges between two-dimensional image organization and three-dimensional physicality.

Remigiusz Dulko has been working with bronze for over four decades. His figurative sculptures are created using the traditional lost-wax casting process and revolve around human relationships, spirituality, sensuality, and everyday life. The surfaces of his sculptures bear traces of the creation process and give the figures a quiet, haunting presence. Each sculpture challenges the surrounding space and changes its impact with the viewpoint of the observer.

Fabian Oppolzer: Painting with Literary Resonance

Fabian Oppolzer, born in 1984 in Stuttgart and raised in Vorarlberg, studied history, theology, and comparative literature in Vienna. Since 2017, he has been working as a visual artist. His practice combines realistic portraits and imaginative visual worlds with literary and cultural-historical thinking.

Oppolzer's works are created in oil, watercolor, ink, wax, and mixed media, among others. Motifs such as self-portraits, landscapes, animal representations, and literary figures open realms of interpretation for memory, narrative, and symbolism. In dialogue with Dulko's bronze works, his paintings gain an additional spatial tension: color harmony and image rhythm respond to body, material, and gesture.

Art as a Bridge Between Dachau and Oświęcim

The exhibition is also a sign of the partnership between the district of Dachau and Oświęcim. Two artists from different cultural contexts engage in an aesthetic exchange that does not illustrate historical connectedness but makes it experienceable through the immediate experience of art. The Museum Altomünster thus becomes a place of cultural education where aesthetic experience, history, and the present are interconnected.

Exhibition Atmosphere in the Museum Altomünster

The presentation unfolds its impact in the internal spaces of the museum. Light, material, and intermediate spaces direct attention to the transitions between painting and sculpture. A walkthrough invites visitors to view the works from different perspectives, to perceive the balance of closed form and open space, and to continually redefine their own standpoint.

Conclusion: A Dialogue That Points Beyond the Visible

Remigiusz Dulko and Fabian Oppolzer connect bronze and color, body and surface, regional proximity and international perspective. Visitors can expect a concentrated artistic experience with haunting sculptures, poetic visual worlds, and an exhibition concept that makes communication through art visible. The exhibition is particularly worth visiting for those who wish to connect contemporary art, art-historical contexts, and inspiring engagement with the works.
