When Painting and Sculpture Engage in Conversation
At the Museum Altomünster, from September 27, 2026 to January 17, 2027, two artistic positions from Germany and Poland meet: the bronze sculptures of the Polish sculptor Remigiusz Dulko from Oświęcim/Auschwitz and the painting of the Aichach artist, musician, and writer Fabian Oppolzer. The exhibition Painting & Sculpture in Dialogue makes visible how art transcends cultural boundaries and opens up new perspectives.
Bronze between Body, History, and the Present
Since the beginning of his artistic career, Remigiusz Dulko has been working with bronze. His sculptures emerge from an intense engagement with material, form, and surface. In Altomünster, works can be seen that, through their plastic presence and reflective aura, allow immediate contemplation of the work. The characteristic materiality of bronze combines weight and resistance with a differentiated, often lively surface.
Fabian Oppolzer's Painterly Response
Selected works by Fabian Oppolzer are juxtaposed with the bronze sculptures. The Aichach painter and writer develops a painterly response to Dulko's plastic forms. Color, line, surface, and space enter into an open dialogue. The curation directs attention to commonalities and contrasts: while the sculpture physically occupies space, the painting unfolds its effect through color harmony, rhythm, and inner pictorial spaces.
Art as Cultural Connection
The exhibition is also a symbol of the partnership between Dachau and Oświęcim/Auschwitz. Two artists from different cultural contexts meet in a joint showcase, the theme of which extends far beyond aesthetic questions. Here, art appears as cultural education, as a means of exchange, and as a parallel language of history.
Exhibition Atmosphere at the Museum Altomünster
In the historic museum with its permanent exhibition on the monastery of Altomünster and the Bridgettine order, contemporary painting and sculpture meet an environment marked by calm and reflection. The compelling combination of sacral museum space, dark bronze, and colored painting creates a special exhibition atmosphere. Visitors experience an art encounter that connects precise perception, aesthetic experience, and historical contemplation.
Accompanying Program with Film Screenings
As part of the exhibition, a film about the relay run from Dachau to Auschwitz will also be shown. The run commemorated the end of the war, the liberation of the concentration camps Auschwitz and Dachau, and the partnership of the two districts. This expands the museum's contemplation of the works to include a documentary and cultural memory dimension.
Conclusion: A Dialogue that Extends Beyond Art
Painting & Sculpture in Dialogue brings together bronze sculptures and paintings for a compelling encounter of material, color, space, and history. Art enthusiasts can expect an exhibition that combines sensual perception with cultural reflection. A visit to the Museum Altomünster opens new perspectives on contemporary art and invites you to continue the dialogue between the works themselves.
