When Painting and Sculpture Enter into Conversation

Starting from September 27, 2026, the works of Polish sculptor Remigiusz Dulko from Oświęcim and Aichach painter and writer Fabian Oppolzer will meet at the Altomünster Museum. The exhibition Painting & Sculpture in Dialogue combines two artistic languages into an immersive artistic experience about form, material, memory, and cultural encounter.

Bronze as a Language of Memory and Connection

Remigiusz Dulko has been working with bronze for over four decades. The artist, born in Lidzbark Warmiński, studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow and completed his studies in sculpture with honors in 1979. His figurative sculptures are created using the traditional lost-wax casting method, focusing on human relationships, spirituality, sensuality, and everyday life.

In examining his works, bronze reveals itself as a vibrant, corporeal material: Its weight, patina, and tactile surface give the sculptures a silent presence. Dulko navigates between the sacred and the profane, between intimacy and symbolism. The sculptural form becomes a vehicle of memory and inner tension.

Fabian Oppolzer's Painterly Intermediate Worlds

Fabian Oppolzer, born in Stuttgart in 1984, studied history, theology, and comparative literature in Vienna. Since 2017, he has been working as a visual artist. His painting and graphic works merge realistic portraits with imaginative, dreamlike worlds, where the familiar intertwines with the magical.

Oil paintings, watercolors, ink works, and wax crayon pieces open up a multi-voiced panorama. Literary figures, animals, landscapes, and portraits appear as motifs in an art that mediates between observation and imagination. Oppolzer's artistic practice adds a narrative dimension to the exhibition and makes visible how closely image, memory, and language are interconnected.

Art in Dialogue Across Cultural Boundaries

The juxtaposition of painting and sculpture creates a special exhibition atmosphere. Different materials, surfaces, and spatial effects relate to each other: Here the three-dimensional presence of the bronze, there the color spaces and narrative pictorial worlds of painting. The curation invites visitors to discover the commonalities and tensions between the two positions themselves.

The exhibition is also a symbol of the cultural connection between the Dachau district and the Polish partner district of Oświęcim. Art here becomes a form of exchange, cultural education, and a way to transform historical proximity into a contemporary aesthetic experience.

An Artistic Experience for Curious Visitors

The examination of the works promises sensory impressions of metal, color, light, and space. Visitors experience how sculpture physically structures space and how painting opens up inner spaces. Especially in this direct encounter, the exhibition reveals its strength: It not only explains art but allows it to be experienced as perception, inquiry, and conversation.

Conclusion: Two Artistic Languages, One Shared Resonance Space

Painting & Sculpture in Dialogue at the Altomünster Museum opens a concentrated encounter between Polish sculpture and contemporary painting from the region. Art enthusiasts can expect an exhibition about material, human closeness, memory, and cultural understanding. Anyone wanting to experience the aesthetic impact of these works firsthand should definitely visit the exhibition on-site.
