When Painting and Sculpture Enter into Conversation

The Museum Altomünster presents Painting & Sculpture in Dialogue, a German-Polish exhibition where the works of sculptor Remigiusz Dulko from Oświęcim/Auschwitz meet the painting of Aichach artist, musician, and writer Fabian Oppolzer. The exhibition opens a multifaceted dialogue about form, material, memory, and cultural encounter.

Bronze as a Language of Memory

Remigiusz Dulko was born in 1955 in Lidzbark Warmiński and studied sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, graduating with distinction in 1979. For more than four decades, he has been working with bronze and accompanies the creation process of his sculptures from design to final processing. His figurative works revolve around people, relationships, spirituality, and memory. His visual language moves between the sacred and the everyday.

In the exhibition, the bronze sculptures unfold a special spatial presence. Volume, surface, weight, and light combine for a concentrated viewing experience. The plastic form challenges the gaze and makes the spaces in between appear as significant as the visible shape.

Fabian Oppolzer: Painting with Literary Sensitivity

Fabian Oppolzer complements the physical presence of the sculptures with a painterly position. As a painter, musician, and writer, he combines visual perception with a pronounced sensitivity to rhythm, atmosphere, and narrative openness. His paintings do not merely stand alongside the bronze but respond to it with color, surface, and painterly movement.

A Dialogue Across Borders

The curation of the exhibition makes visible how art brings people together across linguistic and cultural boundaries. The historical connection between the Dachau district and Oświęcim/Auschwitz takes on a contemporary, sensually tangible form in the works. Painting and sculpture do not appear as opposing genres but as complementary forms of expression.

The exhibition atmosphere thrives on the interplay between painterly openness and plastic condensation. Color, light, body, and material create an aesthetic experience that invites lingering. Cultural education arises here through immediate encounter: visitors discover how different artistic languages communicate with one another.

Art Experience at the Museum Altomünster

The exhibition is on view from September 27, 2026, to January 17, 2027, at the Museum Altomünster. The visit combines the special exhibition with the unique atmosphere of the museum, which also conveys the history of the Altomünster monastery and the Bridgettine order. It is open Thursday to Saturday from 1 PM to 4 PM and Sunday from 1 PM to 5 PM; on holidays, it is open from 1 PM to 4 PM.

Admission is 2.50 Euro per person. Children up to 14 years visit the museum for free. For groups of ten or more, a reduced admission of 2.00 Euro per person applies.

Conclusion: Art as a Lively Encounter

Those who want to experience painting and sculpture not in isolation but in rich exchange will find an impressive art experience in Altomünster. Remigiusz Dulko and Fabian Oppolzer show how material, color, and memory open new perspectives. The exhibition invites you to slow down your gaze and discover the aesthetic experience live in front of the originals.
