When Color and Bronze Enter into Conversation
Starting from September 27, 2026, the works of Polish sculptor Remigiusz Dulko and Aichach painter and writer Fabian Oppolzer will come together at the Museum Altomünster. The exhibition Painting & Sculpture in Dialogue connects two different artistic languages into a concentrated art experience about form, material, memory, and cultural encounter.
A Dialogue between Surface, Body, and Space
The exhibition title also describes the curatorial principle: painting and sculpture do not stand isolated beside each other, but react to one another. Color surfaces, lines, and image rhythms meet volumes, surfaces, and the spatial presence of bronze. In the contemplation of the works, an aesthetic experience emerges that sharpens the perception of proportion, materiality, and movement.
The exhibition atmosphere thrives on productive contrasts. Where painting opens internal spaces and works with color harmonies, sculpture sets physical accents. Visitors experience how perception changes in space and how art can initiate a dialogue across media and national borders.
Remigiusz Dulko: Bronze as Condensed Presence
Remigiusz Dulko was born in 1955 in Lidzbark Warmiński and studied sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, graduating with honors in 1979. For more than four decades, he has been working with bronze and overseeing the creation process of his sculptures from the idea to the final finishing. His figurative works revolve around human relationships, spirituality, sensuality, memory, and the relationship between the sacred and the everyday.
In Altomünster, Dulko's bronze works unfold their effect through mass, gesture, light, and intermediary space. The traditional technique of lost-wax casting combines artisanal precision with an overwhelming plastic effect. Each sculpture asserts its own body while simultaneously challenging the surrounding space.
Fabian Oppolzer: Painting between Image and Narrative
Fabian Oppolzer, born in 1984 in Stuttgart, studied history, theology, and comparative literature in Vienna. Since 2017, he has been working as a visual artist, blending his painting practice with literary thinking. His works include realistic portraits as well as imaginative, dreamlike visual worlds in which the familiar and the foreign intermingle.
In dialogue with Dulko's sculptures, Oppolzer's painting gains an additional spatial tension. Color harmony, line, and composition respond to the physicality of bronze. The juxtaposition makes differences visible and uses them as a foundation for a deepened contemplation of the works between painting, sculpture, and cultural education.
Art as a Connection Across Borders
The exhibition also possesses a cultural-historical and societal dimension. Remigiusz Dulko hails from Oświęcim, the Polish partner county of Dachau, while Fabian Oppolzer comes from the region. This exhibition continues the German-Polish connection in an artistic encounter. Art appears as a space of exchange, where historical experiences, personal visual worlds, and different cultural perspectives relate to each other.
The Museum Altomünster connects the special exhibition with its own historical surroundings and its permanent exhibition about the Altomünster Monastery and the Bridgettine Order. This creates a multi-layered exhibition atmosphere between contemporary art, culture of remembrance, and regional cultural heritage.
Conclusion: An Art Experience for Curious Minds
Painting & Sculpture in Dialogue promises an immediate encounter with two distinct artistic positions. Bronze sculptures by Remigiusz Dulko meet the painterly and literary sensitivity of Fabian Oppolzer. Those who wish to experience color, form, material, and history in the aesthetic experience of the original should definitely visit this exhibition live at the Museum Altomünster.
