When Painting and Sculpture Begin a Conversation
In the Museum Altomünster, starting from September 27, 2026, two distinct artistic positions meet: the bronze sculptures of the Polish sculptor Remigiusz Dulko from Oświęcim and the paintings of the Aichach artist and writer Fabian Oppolzer. The exhibition Painting & Sculpture in Dialogue makes visible how art opens up encounters, memories, and new perspectives across cultural boundaries.
Bronze Between Body, Spirituality, and Memory
Remigiusz Dulko studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow and graduated in sculpture with honors in 1979. For more than four decades, he has been working with bronze and oversees the entire creation process of his works himself – from the initial idea to the design and final processing. His figurative sculptures revolve around human relationships, sensuality, spirituality, and the tension between the sacred and the everyday.
In the examination of his works, bronze reveals a special presence: the material combines heaviness and movement, resistance and sensual surface. Dulko works with expressive forms and a plastic language that addresses the human body as well as questions of memory, closeness, and transcendence. His works have been shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Poland and Germany.
Painting as an Imaginative Experience
Fabian Oppolzer, born in 1984 in Stuttgart, studied history, theology, and comparative literature in Vienna. Since 2012, he has been working as a freelance writer, and since 2017 as a visual artist. His painting and graphics combine realistic portraits with imaginative, dream-like image worlds, where the familiar undergoes a poetic shift.
Oppolzer's images open an atmospheric space between observation and inner imagination. Color fields, figures, and narrative motifs invite a re-examination of the boundaries between reality, memory, and fantasy. For his artistic work, he received, among other awards, the Audience Award of the Aichach Art Prize 2022.
Dialogue as a Curatorial Principle
The exhibition presents painting and sculpture not as opposites, but as correspondingly expressive forms. Here, the spatial presence of bronze meets the color and image dramaturgy of painting. Forms enter into relationships with surfaces, bodies with imagination, materiality with narrative openness.
The dialogue also possesses a cultural-historical dimension. Dulko hails from Oświęcim, the Polish partner district of the Dachau district, while Oppolzer works in Aichach. The exhibition continues the connection between the two regions through an aesthetic experience. Cultural education is created here not just through information, but through immediate seeing, comparing, and conversation in front of the originals.
Art Experience in the Museum Altomünster
The exhibition atmosphere thrives on the interplay between flat painting and three-dimensional sculpture. Visitors can observe how light reacts to bronze, how bodies impact the space, and how painterly image worlds create emotional resonances. A concentrated examination of the works opens up different approaches: art-historically, sensually, biographically, and socially.
The Museum Altomünster presents the special exhibition from September 27, 2026, to January 17, 2027. The regular opening hours are Thursday to Saturday from 1 PM to 4 PM and Sunday from 1 PM to 5 PM; on public holidays, the museum is open from 1 PM to 4 PM. Admission is €2.50 per person; children up to 14 years old can visit the exhibition free of charge.
Conclusion: Two Artistic Languages, One Shared Resonance Space
Painting & Sculpture in Dialogue promises a multifaceted art experience between bronze, color, figure, and imagination. The exhibition connects contemporary art with cultural encounter and invites visitors to experience the impact of material, space, and memory directly. Those who want to not only observe art but experience it in its sensual and societal depth should visit this exhibition live at the Museum Altomünster.
