Painting and Sculpture in Dialogue: Art Connects in Altomünster

The Museum Altomünster presents a German-Polish exhibition with works by sculptor Remigiusz Dulko from Oświęcim/Auschwitz and Aichach painter and writer Fabian Oppolzer from September 27, 2026, to January 17, 2027. Under the title Painting & Sculpture in Dialogue, the two artistic positions meet, opening new perspectives across cultural and linguistic boundaries.

When Color Meets Volume

The exhibition makes the tension field between painting and sculpture immediately perceptible. Color areas, light, and painterly rhythm relate to body, surface, and spatial presence. This creates a concentrated viewing experience where forms do not appear in isolation but communicate with one another. The exhibition atmosphere invites visitors to slow down their gaze and consciously perceive the aesthetic experience between surface and space.

Remigiusz Dulko: Bronze, Figure, and Memory

Remigiusz Dulko was born in 1955 in Lidzbark Warmiński and studied sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, graduating with honors in 1979. For more than four decades, he has been working with bronze and uses traditional lost-wax casting for his figurative sculptures. His works revolve around people, relationships, spirituality, and memory. His visual language often navigates between the sacred and the everyday, between intimacy and symbolism.

Fabian Oppolzer: Painting with Literary Sensibility

Fabian Oppolzer, a painter, musician, and writer from Aichach, complements Dulko's sculptural presence with a painterly position. His selected paintings engage in a visual exchange with the bronze sculptures. Different materials, forms, and expressions do not form a contradiction but create an open resonance space for perception, memory, and cultural encounter.

Art as a German-Polish Dialogue

The exhibition is connected to the partnership between the Dachau district and Oświęcim/Auschwitz. Two artists from different cultural contexts meet in a museum that is itself shaped by history, spirituality, and cultural education. The curation sees art as a way to bring people together and open conversations where words alone are not sufficient.

A Historic Exhibition Venue

The Museum Altomünster, in addition to changing special exhibitions, hosts a permanent exhibition on the Altomünster Monastery and the Bridgettine Order. Calmness, contemplation, and reflection characterize the atmosphere of the house. In this historic setting, the juxtaposition of painting and sculpture acquires a particular depth: Contemporary art enters into a quiet dialogue with the cultural memory of the place.

Visiting Information

The exhibition is open from Thursday to Saturday from 1 PM to 4 PM and on Sundays from 1 PM to 5 PM. On public holidays, the opening hours are from 1 PM to 4 PM. Admission is 2.50 euros per person; children up to 14 years visit the exhibition free of charge. Groups of ten or more pay 2.00 euros per person. The opening reception takes place on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at 3 PM.

Conclusion: An Art Experience Between History and Present

Painting & Sculpture in Dialogue promises an intense aesthetic experience between bronze, color, form, and space. Art enthusiasts will experience how two different media communicate with each other and how cultural encounter gains new significance through the appreciation of the works. A visit to the Museum Altomünster enriches cultural perception and opens an impressive dialogue that should definitely be experienced live.
