Painting & Sculpture in Dialogue: Art Connects in Altomünster
What happens when painterly color fields meet the physical presence of sculpture? The exhibition Painting & Sculpture in Dialogue at the Altomünster Museum brings together Polish sculptor Remigiusz Dulko from Oświęcim/Auschwitz and the Aichach painter, writer, and musician Fabian Oppolzer. From September 27, 2026, to January 17, 2027, the exhibition opens new perspectives on form, color, material, and cultural encounters.
When Surface and Volume Speak to Each Other
The curatorial idea is based on an exciting dialogue: painting develops color, rhythm, and inner pictorial spaces, while sculpture works through materiality, surface, and spatial presence. Notably, Dulko's bronze sculptures engage in immediate exchange with Oppolzer's painterly language. In the examination of the works, it becomes clear how differently art organizes reality and how an independent aesthetic experience emerges from the interaction of two media.
Remigiusz Dulko and Fabian Oppolzer
Remigiusz Dulko was born in 1955 in Lidzbark Warmiński and studied sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, graduating with honors in 1979. Fabian Oppolzer works as a painter, writer, and musician. His artistic practice combines visual design, literature, and narrative condensation. Both positions represent contemporary art that does not fix perception but puts it into motion.
A Historical Resonating Space for Contemporary Art
The Altomünster Museum is closely linked to the history of the monastery and the Bridgettine Order. In this historically shaped environment, the exhibition gains special depth: contemporary painting and sculpture encounter the cultural memory of the place. At the same time, the German-Polish presentation connects to the district partnership between Dachau and Oświęcim/Auschwitz. Art appears here as a connecting language across cultural and linguistic boundaries.
Art Experience, Cultural Education, and Quiet Intensity
The atmosphere of the exhibition thrives on the contrast between the spatial presence of plastic works and the poetic openness of painting. Light, surfaces, contours, and intermediate spaces direct the gaze to the sensual qualities of the works. The exhibition invites visitors to slow down their perception and experience art as an encounter of body, space, memory, and color. In this way, it connects art historical classification with cultural education and immediate work examination.
